Language Arts: We read for 20 minutes in Readers Workshop.
In Writer’s Workshop we worked on “snapshot” writing.  We went outside and wrote about what we saw and what we heard.

Homework: 
  • Read for 20 minutes
  • Criterion writing piece on a character we would invite to dinner.  Due on Friday

Word Study:  Today we began our first unit in word study for spelling.  Each child has been placed in a word study category based upon an assessment they took a few weeks ago. They are bringing home a packet today explaining the lessons that they are to complete daily for word study.  Their first spelling test will be next Monday.

Homework: 
  • Word study packet
  • Study for test on Monday, October 31st

                    
Social Studies: Completed lesson 4. Took vocab quiz on lessons 3 and 4

Homework:
  • TCI Lesson 4 review due on Friday, October 28th

5/6 HALLOWEEN PIÑATA INFO:
We will be making our own Halloween-themed piñatas out of recycled materials--no buying one in a store!  Look at things you would normally throw out at home like boxes, newspapers, packing materials, bags, etc.  Be creative!  Think about how you can reuse your found trash items to make a “recycled”piñata for the Halloween party!You may fill your piñata with whatever PEANUT-FREE, individually-wrapped goodies you would like!  Piñatas can have a pull-string to open or just traditional paper mache all over to be “broken into” –check with your teacher to see if he/she has a preference.  Paper mache can be made using thinned school glue/water or thinned corn starch/water.  Make sure to incorporate a secure hanging mechanism (of recycled material).  The Halloween piñata is an optional at-home project for all 5/6 students.  Bring finished piñatas to school the week of October 24-28.  We will elect the winning piñatas within our 5/6 teams before we have the fun of breaking them open at the Halloween party on Monday, October 31.

Today we took the social studies/science MEAP.  We did not have regular academic classes.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I will be out tomorrow. My youngest son Gage is having tubes placed in his ears.  My student teacher, Ms. Leach will be here with the students along with a guest teacher. It will be a normal academic day.
