Language Arts:
·         6th Grade:  Continued to work on our China cause and effect essay. This is a five paragraph essay that is due on Friday. Majority of this essay will be completed in class. Many were handed in today. 
·         We continued to read Red Scarf Girl.  The book needs to be completed by Monday. We will finish in class.
·         Book List for the 40 book Challenge will be checked on Tuesday.

5th Grade:  Same lesson as 6th grade.

Homework:
  • Read for 20 minutes or more nightly.
  • China essay if you do not have it completed.
  • June R and E is due on Monday, June 10th
  • Chapter 10 prompts for Red Scarf Girl

Social Studies: Worked on the seven characteristics of a civilization for Ancient Greece., Ancient Rome and Ancient China. The students wrote a five paragraph essay comparing and contrasting   what makes these empires a civilization.

Homework: NO homework.

Reminders:
  • Friday is Wacky recess. Bring a change of clothing just in case.
  • WE STILL NEED 2 CHAPREONES FOR OUR TRIP TO COSI. ANY VOLUNTEERS?????

·         5th Grade:  Turned in cause and effect writing piece and had many assignments returned.  Please check power school for missing assignments. Watson’s literary essay was returned. You may revise for a better grade. The revised piece is due on Tuesday, May 28th.   Continued to read Red Scarf Girl.

      Some students, like Yu Jian, are judged positively because of their family backgrounds.  The following saying was popular during the Cultural Revolution: “The son is a hero if the father is a revolutionary. The son is a rotten egg if the father is a counterrevolutionary.”  Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Do you think it is fair or appropriate to use family background to judge someone in a positive or negative way? Explain your answers.

On page 25, Ji-li says, “But Grandma, we have to get rid of those old ideas, old culture, old customs, and old habits. Chairman Mao said they’re holding us back.” What are some examples of Four Olds provided in this chapter? Do you think old ideas, culture, customs, or habits have the power to hold people back? Why or why not?
