Language Arts:
  • 6th Grade:  Worked on the novel Wonder.
·           5th Grade:  same lesson as 6th grade and they need to complete the following writing assignment in their Reader’s Notebook.

Theories on Characters:
1. Write about a theory you have about a character from the novel
You are reading. You must include the following:

* The name of your novel and it must be underlined.
*You must give specific examples from the book to support your theory.
You have to give page numbers.
*Spelling counts
*Must be in cursive.

·         Homework:
  • Read for 20 minutes or more nightly.
  • February R and E due Tuesday, February 12th
  • 5th grammar packet due Wednesday, February 6th
  • 5th Grade reading response due tomorrow (Feb. 1st)

Social Studies:  Watched a video Back to the Beginning to launch unit three which studies the three major religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam).
  • Student took notes on the video and we are working on “Shrinking Notes”
  • They shrank their notes to 10 and worked an essay comparing Ancient history and Modern day

Shrinking Notes
1. Pick the 10 best notes on the history of religion
2. Write an essay on the following topic. Compare and Contrast Ancient Historical Events to Modern Day Events.
3. Your paragraph must have the following: AAEE Model
·                     Topic sentence
·                     evidence with support
·                     8 sentences minimum
·                     In cursive

Language Arts:
  • 6th Grade: Today we listened to our read aloud novel, Wonder and answered a writing prompt based on our own novel. They needed to pick a precise word about their character and find three supporting details from their story to support that word.
  • 5th Grade:  Class was interrupted today due to vision testing. The students read their chapter book and we continued to listen to our read aloud, Wonder.

Homework:
  • Read for 20 minutes or more nightly.
  • January R and E due on January 14th.

Social Studies:  Took lesson 10 test today.

  • Criterion if you did not complete in class or scored 3 or lower.
  • January R and E due on January 14th.

Social Studies:  Finished lesson 10. Reading notes are due tomorrow. Make sure they are perfect!  They are worth 32 points.

Language Arts:
  • 6th Grade:  Today we presented our book club projects and continued with reading the novel, Wonder. We worked more on understanding characters in reading. 
  •  Revised personal narratives are due on January 4th.

  • 5th Grade:  Same lesson as 6th grade.  If you received a score lower than 70 on your personal narrative, you must revise and resubmit for a better grade. Those who scored higher then 70, may also revise for a better grade, but it is not required.  The revised papers are due on January 4th.

Homework:

  • Read for 20 minutes or more nightly.
  • January R and E due on January 14th.

Social Studies:  We started unit 10. Lesson 9 test will be returned as soon as all students have taken the test.
