Language Arts:
  • 6th Grade: We read chapter 6 in Watson’s Go to Birmingham.
·           5th Grade:  Same lesson as 6th grade.

Homework:
  • Read for 20 minutes or more nightly.
  • Spelling due on Monday
  • Read A Thon on Monday (March 4th) It is PJ day!  Bring some good books to read and snacks to eat!


Social Studies:  Completed lesson 12.  They worked on several pages in their packet and three pages are due tomorrow.

Homework:  Pages 3, 4, 7, and 8 in your lesson 12 packet are due TOMORROW
  • Processing page 6 due on Tuesday
  • Lesson 12 test on Thursday, March 7th.

  • 6th Grade: We read chapter 5 in Watson’s Go to Birmingham and started two reading prompts.  The prompts are due tomorrow.

·           5th Grade:  Same lesson as 6th grade.

Homework:
Chapter 5 Reading Prompt2
1. You must write the prompt. You may print or write in cursive.
2. Answer the prompt in complete detail
3. You must write in cursive and spelling counts!!

1.    Write a first person account of the events in this chapter from the point of view of a character other than Kenny.

2. How does the author create humor in this chapter? Give examples at least THREE and analyze them.

  • 6th Grade: We continued reading Watsons Go to Birmingham and finished presenting R and E’s.

Social Studies:  Took lesson 11 test.

Homework:  No homework.

Science Literacy:  Today the students continued to work on their “I Wonder.. “ project.  The project is due on Friday, February 15th.  They must complete a power point/ prezi project and a research paper.  They have completed most of this in class. If they are behind, it needs to become homework. 

Reminders: valentine party on Thursday. Must make cards for all 54 if you choose to hand out cards.  Also bring a bag to collect your goodies!

Language Arts:
  • 6th Grade: We continued reading Watsons Go to Birmingham.  I have extended the due date for spelling until tomorrow due to the snow day.

·           5th Grade:  Same lesson as 6th grade along with reading prompts based on Chapters 2 and 3 in Watsons. They are due tomorrow

You must complete the following:
1. Write the prompt-You may print
2. Must have a topic sentence at the beginning of the prompt.
3. Must be in cursive and SPELLING counts.
Chapter 2
1. Find evidence in Chapter 2 to prove or disprove this statement: Kenny Watson is an outcast at his school. Cite the pages
Chapter 3
1. Kenny and Rufus have a conflict. How does Kenny first try to solve it? Does Plan A work? Why or why not? How does Kenny's mother help the situation? What does Kenny do differently when he approaches Rufus the second time?

  • 2. From which point of view is the story told? What do you learn about the narrator in Ch. 1? How might the narrator's perspective affect the way the story is told?
  • 3. Identify a major conflict in Ch. 1, Is it resolved? What conflicts do you expect will come up again in the Watson's family? Why?

Language Arts:
  • 6th Grade:  We started our new novel study. We are reading the novel, Watsons Go to Birmingham. With this novel we will be doing a variety of activities, including writing prompts, class discussion and a literary analysis at the end of the novel. 
  • Today the students received their spelling list and direction for activities to complete on Spelling City. All work is due on Monday, February 11th and the test will be that day as well.
  • Some of the words may seem simple and easy and as I explained to the students, that is FINE. I expect their spelling to be correct in all of their writing. In all subject areas. I expect them understand the spelling patterns. If I see they are consistently spelling everything correctly, I will consider moving their levels.

  • 6th Grade:  Worked on the novel Wonder. You must complete the reading response on your own novel.
  • Theories on Characters:
  • 1. Write about a theory you have about a character from the novel
  • You are reading. You must include the following:

  • *You must give specific examples from the book to support your theory.
  • You have to give page numbers.
  • *Spelling counts
