Language Arts: 

6^th Grade:  Today we set up our reader’s notebook and officially started the “40 Book’ challenge. The students received the requirements that they need to fulfill to reach this goal by the end of the school year.

5^th Grade: Had the same lesson as 6^th grade.

Homework: 

·         Decorated writer’s notebook due on Tuesday, September 10.

·         Decorated Reader’s Notebook for extra credit points due on Tuesday, September 10.

Social Studies: Today we discussed features of information text and completed activities based on Colonial America.

Homework:

• Covered Social Studies textbooks books will receive 5 points extra credit!

·         Picture day is Wednesday, September 11^th

Language Arts: 

6^th Grade:  Today we had a class read aloud and discussed kindness, which is our character focus for the next two weeks. The students did a short writing activity on kindness.

5^th Grade: Had the same lesson as 6^th grade.

Homework: 

·         Decorated writer’s notebook due on Tuesday, September 10.

·         Decorated Reader’s Notebook for extra credit points due on Tuesday, September 10.

Social Studies: Today we read Junior Scholastic magazine together and discussed the articles and features of informational text.

Homework:

• Complete Junior Scholastic quiz.
• Covered Social Studies textbooks books will receive 5 points extra credit!

Language Arts: 

6^th Grade:  Today we went over the expectations in language arts.  The students began with reader’s workshop and practiced their writing skills by writing me a letter.

5^th Grade: Had the same lesson as 6^th grade.

Homework: 

·         Summer reading packet due tomorrow. This assignment is worth 25 points.

·         Decorated writer’s notebook due on Tuesday, September 10.

·         Decorated Reader’s Notebook for extra credit points due on Tuesday, September 10.

Social Studies: Today students received their textbook and student notebook.  Please cover the textbooks.  Covered books will receive 5 points extra credit!

Welcome Back!

It was a great day seeing all those smilling faces and ready to start the 2013-2014 school year.  We will be starting academics on Thursday.

Language Arts:

·         6^th Grade:  Continued to work on our China cause and effect essay. This is a five paragraph essay that is due on Friday. Majority of this essay will be completed in class. Many were handed in today. 

·         We continued to read Red Scarf Girl.  The book needs to be completed by Monday. We will finish in class.

·         Book List for the 40 book Challenge will be checked on Tuesday.

5^th Grade:  Same lesson as 6^th grade.

Homework:

• Read for 20 minutes or more nightly.
• China essay if you do not have it completed.
• June R and E is due on Monday, June 10^th
• Chapter 10 prompts for Red Scarf Girl

Social Studies: Worked on the seven characteristics of a civilization for Ancient Greece., Ancient Rome and Ancient China. The students wrote a five paragraph essay comparing and contrasting   what makes these empires a civilization.

Homework: NO homework.

Reminders:

• Friday is Wacky recess. Bring a change of clothing just in case.
• WE STILL NEED 2 CHAPREONES FOR OUR TRIP TO COSI. ANY VOLUNTEERS?????

Social Studies: Read "Roman Empire" magazine, watched video about life in the Roman Empire, and completed worksheets. 

Homework: Worksheets due tomorrow (if not already turned in).
