Just wanted to let you know that I will be at a reading meeting tomorrow afternoon. I will be in the building if I am needed.

Language Arts:
We went to the media center and worked on our small moment writing piece. We also had an opportunity to check out books

Homework:
  • Read for 20 minutes
  • Criterion writing piece on a character we would invite to dinner.  Due on Friday
  • Small moment final piece due on Friday. Must be printed and have rubric attached. Also it needs to be on the wiki.

Word Study:  Today we began our first unit in word study for spelling.  Each child has been placed in a word study category based upon an assessment they took a few weeks ago. They are bringing home a packet today explaining the lessons that they are to complete daily for word study.  Their first spelling test will be next Monday.

Homework:
  • Word study packet
  • Study for test on Monday, October 31st

Social Studies: Created a review for lesson 4. Winners of the review will be rewarded tomorrow and the students will use the winning reviews to help study for the test on Friday.

Homework:
  • TCI Lesson 4 review due on Friday, October 28th
  • Lesson 4 test on Friday, October 28th

Reminders:
Please read the following regarding our Halloween Party

5/6 HALLOWEEN PIÑATA INFO:
We will be making our own Halloween-themed piñatas out of recycled materials--no buying one in a store!  Look at things you would normally throw out at home like boxes, newspapers, packing materials, bags, etc.  Be creative!  Think about how you can reuse your found trash items to make a “recycled”piñata for the Halloween party! You may fill your piñata with whatever PEANUT-FREE, individually-wrapped goodies you would like!  Piñatas can have a pull-string to open or just traditional paper mache all over to be “broken into” –check with your teacher to see if he/she has a preference.  Paper mache can be made using thinned school glue/water or thinned corn starch/water.  Make sure to incorporate a secure hanging mechanism (of recycled material).  The Halloween piñata is an optional at-home project for all 5/6 students.  Bring finished piñatas to school the week of October 24-28.  We will elect the winning piñatas within our 5/6 teams before we have the fun of breaking them open at the Halloween party on Monday, October 31.
